It's always sad when great things come to an end, but we're going to convert all that sadness into a million joyous moments for these upcoming gigs!

After five years of consistently smashing audiences around the collective face, we are gutted to announce that Glasgow’s six-man musical fireball Dananananaykroyd have announced their intention to split immediately after the conclusion of their forthcoming UK tour.

Drawing plaudits wide and varied, the outfit oft-described as “the best live band in the world,” have notched two critically-acclaimed albums including their most recent effort ‘There Is A Way’ made on Venice Beach, LA with legendary producer Ross Robinson.

“We all still love each other very much,” said the group, “for a band called Dananananaykroyd we’ve done more than we ever expected or possibly even intended and we’ve enjoyed nearly every step of the way. We’re very keen at the same time to make sure we’re never compromising or giving anything less than 100% and at this juncture of our collective lives, it makes sense to go out with a bang – which is exactly what this tour will be.”

Following shows in Leeds and Bristol, Dananananaykroyd’s 12-date farewell tour begins in hometown Glasgow and ends in a giant sphere of blood, guts, human flesh, fire and rock in Newcastle on 12th November and calls over the UK beforehand.

The band will release their final single ‘Think & Feel’ digitally on 7th November 2011.

2010 is officially GOH for us and some videos have appeared of our first official gig of the year (Newcastle's Evolution Festival). Tiring stuff when you take 6 months off to chase people away and also write an album, but mega-good fun and it's great to be making music for people again (not to mention shouting at kids that throw things at us).

Nobody videofied the bit where we did backflips and all went to hospital like real rocker punk 4 stylez 2006. Maybe next time.

Hi. We might be working on a few new tunes. We haven't quite decided yet. There are one or two little riffs kicking about the shop, but nothing particularly interesting or complete. One of them sounds like No Doubt and one of them sounds a bit like Prince. Another, sort of like nits. Yeah, I know! Where to go with that one... Who knows? The job centre? As we reluctantly, and with hearts as heavy as bags (heavy bags), begin the arduous task of getting people to tidy up and make a little room back there in their music-brains for us again, we're faced with what appears to be a gigantic wall made out of Newcastle. Picture a bow tie lying in a puddle. There are specks of blood on it. I have a little money. I will give you it all right now if it would make you happy. It wont? I've got a brand new idea for a music video where we are all standing in a cold room getting make up put on our faces, waiting for something to happen (applause). I've got a brand new idea for a sophmore album where you download it and hate it, listen to it a few more times and find out, to your annoyance, that it's actually not that bad (over-produced). By this point, however, the people who had refrained from leaving flippant, hateful comments (adults) are getting around to saying how much they are enjoying it, making the comments that you left when you were in such a hurry to be funny and snide looking particularly childish and boring. You go back four and a half retweets and are left contemplating why you enjoy disliking things.

HUGTOBER: DID YOU DO IT? DID YOU FIND US? CAN YOU WIN ME? HUNG A BIT, DID IT?

DAY ONE: NEWCASTLE
Tourdad pitched up in the VAN at midday and we all set off, with our new merchmonkey MARTIN in tow. Drove in the POURING RAIN to The Cluny - what a great venue! Local radical misfits Joel and Jack were there to meet us. They're great guys. We always have a good time in Newcastle and this time was no exception. We hooked up with our support bands Dinosaur Pile-Up and Super Adventure Club. LOVELY GUYS. SAC were, unfortunately, suffering from swine/bird/rock flu but powered through their set like the true professionals they are. Our show was great fun. We had a bit of the first night nerves and played everything at 100mph but a really friendly crowd made it a great show. Back to the Trannylodge where I got the last Chicken and Mushroom Pot Noodle from the 24-hour garage much to JBJ's anguish.

DAY TWO: NOTTINGHAM
We went to Nottingham to play at the Bodega - a really cool wee venue with the second worst load in/out of the tour! Last time we played here, there were about 30 people. This time the room was rammed. I can't explain how awesome it is to play to a room full of radical brosephs and brosephines. Nottingham's really nice, but there's nowhere to watch football on the telly. Still, we'll come back soon, I promise. We had lunch at a weird diner by the way. Coke floats for breakfast, lunch and dinner from now on, ok? Oh, I should add that our sound guy Kyle also pitched up in Newcastle. He calls you 'rude boy', says 'braap' a lot and falls asleep in the van with his gob open:

DAY THREE: NORWICH
We'd never been to Norwich before! It's great! Delia Smith didn't turn up. Horse. Still, we played in a church on a stage built ON TOP OF SEVERAL GRAVES... "ARE YOU THERE, SYDNEY?"
Amazingly, none of us got struck by lightning and we had yet another really fun evening. Thanks Norwich! A splendid Wall of Cuddles, too. Our merchmonkey Martin had been SMASHING his sales targets, mainly due to Ryan's 'encouragement'... Impressive stuff. But what's more impressive is that my snare drum (you hearing this, JBJ??) is SO LOUD, a single, normal stroke reaches 120db which is NUTS. DRUM GEEK LOLZ.

DAY FOUR: CARDIFF
Yaaaaay! Cardiff! OH GOD NO... WHY ARE WE UP AT 7AM?
A ghastly start to the day. We had a loooonnnggg drive from Norwich to Cardiff. Anyone who knows us will be au fait with our 'don't talk to me before midday' caveat. Still, poor Tourdad who had to actually DRIVE for 5 hours. Anyway... we made it to Cardiff and went straight to the BBC for a totally wonky and rather squiffy session for BBC Wales. Not the best session we've ever done (early mornings don't really agree with Calum and JBJ's voices and it's pretty difficult to do our 'music' in a quiet setting) but at least we got to catch up with the lovely Jen 'a-la-la-la-la' Long. We then had a quick break in the Premier Inn (WE'RE GOING UP IN THE WORLD, LADS!) and made our way to The Gate... the second church gig of the tour. Amazingly, none of us got struck by lightning. Maybe JC has accepted us for what we are, guys? An amazing lineup for this one. Our lovely pals Los Campesinos! and Copy Haho played at either side of us so top fun all round. Cardiff is always really good to us. Back to the Trannylodge for everyone except Calum who partied long into the night. He has to shoulder the burden for the rest of us being wimps. (Big thanks to Susan who brought root beer for John and I.)

DAY FIVE: OXFORD
Back to normality today as we were rejoined by Dino Pile-Up who had all succumbed to piggy flu and looked worse with every passing hour. Well done on continuing to rock, lads... It was also the final show Super Adventure Club would be playing with us BOO. Due to 'structural damage', we ended up playing in a weird half-room with a cave for a stage. Soundmonkey Kyle managed to somehow use the adjacent room as a sub-bass dungeon which made the entire building shake every time I slammed my foot on my kick drum pedal. Wow. Still, despite the weird surroundings, we had a good time. An energetic crowd helped! David managed to stave off the dreaded tour flu and rocked hard. Ryan may or may not have bashed his head for the umpteenth time. Best of all, we took Martin for his first ever Nando's and Duncan TOTALLY CASHED IN on his FREE HALF CHICKEN.

DAY SIX: DAY OFF!
We had a day off. Days off are gooooood. DROY and JBJ got to sit in their pants watching movies, Calum, Duncan and Ryan went to hang out with our manager Colin at his local, a wide-eyed Martin explored London town and I got horsed by Scott at pool before getting my dinner cooked by my pal Vicky. Real nice recharging time. We also picked up our XBoxes! TRANNYLODGE HOTELS DON'T HAVE A/V INPUTS THOUGH? Have you met our manager Colin? He's cool. We like him a lot. He likes cricket. DAY SEVEN: LONDON
Wow, a big show in London... our biggest London show yet. NERVOUS! After a morning sourcing Krispy Kreme doughnuts and sleeping as late as possible, we encountered our WORST EVER LOAD IN... well, worst of the tour. Something like 28 flights of stairs. GET READY FOR CRABCORE. So, anyway, The Scala! Lovely old venue. The closest thing we'd ever seen to the Barrowlands in Glasgow. Massive stage, lots of room for mischief and/or slipping about like penguins on spilled drinks... We welcomed our pals Calories into the fold for the first of two shows they played with us and they managed to put on one of the funniest, loosest performances I'd ever seen. Terrific. Our show was wild. Quite a cathartic experience playing to a packed room of London coolies. Best bit: David climbing up on top of a speaker and getting terrified cos it was so wet from all the dry ice. ROCK UND ROLL! Duncan hugged a surly security guard. Anyway, THANKS LONDON... I'd gone home by the point when Ryan destroyed some Islington trendies on the Fusball table. Good lad. Have you met our bassist Ryan? His banter is better than enyhunmn but he sometimes looks directly at the camera:

Brighton! It's nice in Brighton. HOWEVER, it takes 2 hours to get out of London. LET US OUT OF LONDON, PLEASE. Anyway, we made it to Brighton! third worst load in/out of the tour! Where's the internet? Let's just go to Nando's! OK!! JBJ and I sourced our favourite root beer but we still can't find the gay bit of town that isn't rainbow flags and Eurobeat. C'mon Brighton! I missed Calories and Dinosaur Pile-Up to go and have a pint with Fraser and Rachel which was cooool. I never get to sit and talk about Polvo anymore. We had another good show. Probably one of the quieter gigs but Brighton peeps still did a pretty awesome Wall of Cuddles. I had a free pass from loading out so went to see Crowns On The Rats who are TOTALLY BRILLIANT. ALMOST MISSED THE VAN HOME... Spent the rest of the evening in the Trannylodge LOLLING at pictures of Scott, our Tourdad, on Facebook (ehh he sanctioned the whole thing by the way). DAY NINE: MANCHESTER
Two words: Dutch Uncles. We love them. They hopefully love us too. They came to our show. We put them on the guestlist. Anyway, massive big dressing room. Room for EVERYONE to lie down. No-one lied down. Unfortunately, our new (and final) support band Stage Blood couldn't make the show as their van broke down and they had to get towed back to Glasgow. RATS. The show itself was DANGEROUS. Duncan got mobbed before we were even onstage. A bit TOO rowdy? Kids, you gotta look out for each other down the front! Still, the majority of you were really good! A roasting hot, punishing set, but a good one. Nice room too... Wee party in the dressing room after the show, I got a bit of time to chat to the Dino Pile Up guys who are all REALLY REALLY NICE. Again, it was up to Calum to shoulder the burden for the rest of the band by going onto a party while the rest of us went back to the Travel Tavern to watch whatever crap film was on BBC1... Oh, we met Yves Klein Blue at the hotel! I joined them for a quiet drink. The life of a touring band isn't that excessive... Well, until you hit LEEDS.

DAY TEN: LEEDS
Uh-oh. Chaos? Good chaos though! We hit Leeds! The Brudenell Social Club is a fine place indeed. Third or fourth time we'd played there. Big thanks to the promoter for sourcing GOOSE ISLAND ROOT BEER for us... It cost him something like £18! THANKS DUDE! The rocktageous Stage Blood made it this time... yay! Dutch Uncles also played and are pretty much the best band on earth. There ah says it. Key points of this particular evening: JBJ's Tangerine Game, Ryan's tranny name is Kinky Leglock, Sped Dutch Uncles should not be allowed out of the house, Los Camp/Copy Haho/Dananan conga, "OMG, THERE'S A MOUSE IN THIS CUPBOARD", "OMG THAT GUY IS HOT" and "We're leaving at 9am"...

DAY ELEVEN: DAY OFF! DOOM IN THE VAN!
Five hours to get back to Glasgow. I don't want to talk about it. Some of us went to see LC! and Copy Haho at Tut's that evening. That was pretty good. Have you met our singer John? He's either climbing the walls or fast asleep (with his gob open):

DAY TWELVE: GLASGOW!!
Yaaaaay! Last show of the tour. A very busy Oran Mor. They put us in the nicest dressing room I've ever seen, complete with piano and 300-year-old table (the size of Zaire). Playing Glasgow is always a strange experience. It's a totally different crowd compared who used to come back in the early days. I was dying with 'flu and couldn't see beyond the front row of the crowd, but it seemed to be pretty rocking. THANKS GLASGOW! THASGOW!

I wanted to take a moment to talk about German perverts Rammstein. They TOTALLY stole our idea of making a box set of dildos to release with their new album. I don't want to post a picture of the dildos for those of you who read this blog at work, but if you want to see them, they're easily found via Google. Other search engines are available.

Oh, Sky Larkin are currently out touring the UK right now. Make the right decision and go see them. Their Glasgow show with Copy Haho was one of the best gigs I've seen this year. And I've seen TONS of shows, yeah? TONS. Like, absolutely TONS. No I haven't.

Copy Haho and Findo Gask are also going out on the road. You know what you need to do.

Hello dudes and dudettes! How have you all been? Oh yeah. We've just kicked off our Holland/Germany tour and are currently relaxing in Amsterdam eating crap and talking crap and just being biffters, yeah. Nice!

We're all getting super pumped and excited for our upcoming October UK tour. It's our first tour of the UK for a little while and will be our last of the year. We're calling it 'HUGTOBER 09' because we are all a bit silly and also because we like hugging! PSYCH!

hey buddies,
just a quick update on things and how they're getting on!

last week, i was rexrayed and told (once again) that the surgeon had done an amazing job (thats 3 different people that have told me how good this guys surgery was). with any severe elbow injury, it's very important to get the damaged muscles moving as quickly as possible, so they've taken off the cast and given me a sling to hold my arm at a comfortable angle. the muscles were so damaged that i couldn't even move my fingers as well as my wrist, elbow and shoulder. at the moment, i've got my hand moving again, i can move my elbow about 30 degrees but i cant move my wrist at all yet. they thought i might have broken my wrist, but i haven't, but they still can't figure out exactly what's wrong with it yet, which is making me shit myself a little, but i guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

reading/leeds & rock en seine!:
we are treating these shows as a test to see what i can do comfortably (not only the show but all the traveling etc etc). we don't want to cancel any more shows than we have to, but at the same time, we have to be careful not to push this fucking arm too hard, as that could be an even worse set back! weh!
for these 3 festivals (and probably more) our tour manager and drummer extraordinaire scott simpson will be helping out with extra drumming stuff (he does this for us sometimes anyway) so you guys out front will still have the DRUMPUMPS in yr lovely ears.

the irony is that i've dangled from 15 ft balconies, swung from lighting rigs and rafters (literally), beat ricky wilson at 'do something dangerous' every night for a month and generally been an absolute clown, throwing myself off anything i was able to climb - yet stepping off a 2 ft stage and catching my foot causes all this. fucking typical, eh?

i'd like to thank everyone who has sent me 'get wells' in the past few weeks, it really means a lot and it's made this much easier to deal with. thanks, i love you.

JBJ Hospital Diary pt 3

Friday 31/7/09

I woke up in a cunt of a mood. I hadn’t slept, my arm was increasingly painful and I was still shitting myself about being put under and wondering what I’d do if it didn’t work.

I was told it would be 12pm or “maybe tomorrow” that I’d go in. I got into some Abraham Hicks while on a shit-tonne of codeine and it got my head together a bit. It turned out that I got taken down just before 2pm and panicked in the direction of anyone who came near me: porter, receptionist, anaesthetist, surgeon, you name it. The anaesthetist gave me some ‘calming’ drugs before knocking me out, so by the time it came to it, I thought it was a brilliant idea! “Lets go! Knock me out, Doc!” I was saying.

I woke up to find myself (as I usually do after anaesthetic), swinging my arms about and shouting. My family seem to have a history of having interesting reactions to general anaesthetic, my favourite being my sister waking up and telling the nurse she was “pure… beautiful” before bursting into tears. I, this time, felt very nauseous, had come out in a rash and was generally freaking out in a semi-conscious but vocal manner. My arm felt better already, the same amount of pain but not as ‘wrong’ as it did before, more natural. Or as natural as 4 steel pins holding your arm together can feel I suppose.

I went upstairs, back to the ward and after my new 20 hour fast was given 2 slices of bread, a slice of cheese and a pear, but Colin added to this a fantastic pack of crisps and M&Ms from the machine. We had a few laughs in the ward (actually, i was so wasted that when i think about this, i remember loads of people there and music playing and all that) eventually he headed back to the hotel. For the rest of the night I phoned family etc back home to give updates and watched Mannequin. My sleep was only interrupted once by pain, but my favourite night nurse James sorted me out. In exchange for eye-pieing painkillers, I’d say things in my funny accent at his request, leaving us both delighted.

Thursday 30/7/09

I was left overnight in this horrible place. Everyone went back to the hotel, I had 2 excruciating rounds of X-Rays and a C.T scan. In the morning the orthopaedic surgeon (Dr Waddell, he as it turns out, is the man) came round and gave me the grim news. I had snapped both bones that run from the wrist to the elbow. They had broken near the elbow and had sheered off a chunk of the humorous bone with them, which was now sitting in among my muscles somewhere, which was the cause of the agonising spasms. He said it was a bad and rare injury, my arm was literally in bits and I had to have emergency surgery to try and fix it.

Soon after, I called my mum and bawled my eyes out, this time over what was happening and how much I was shitting myself. I dunno how anyone with a good relationship with their mother can hear her upset without automatically crying as well, we trigged each other. I dare say being 12,000 miles away from home didn’t help either.

I was put on a fast while I was waiting to be taken for the operation, which was to be as soon as a space appeared, the rest of the band flew onto Melbourne and Colin stayed with me. I was moved to bed 27 in a ward with a beautiful view of the city. I heard of radio stations talking about me, which made me feel both loved and embarrassed.
Dew Process and Secret Sounds sent me a bag of presents and a Superman card, surely the nicest label ever? The ward had an old man coming off alcohol and he made my stay extremely stressful and give me a completely sleepless night. It shocked me how he treated the staff here too, anytime they’d try to do anything for him in the most sincere and patient way, he’d shout and swear at them. Old bastard.

I sent Colin back to the hotel to rest, he hadn’t been to sleep from dealing with cancellations, flight changes etc. and was hang about to make sure I was okay, bless him. That night I got to eat, the operation had been changed to the next day, in the morning, or whenever I could be fitted in, joy. I hadn’t eaten in 20 hours, I got some absolutely disgusting hospital-made chicken stew with potato and horrible brocolli – it was amazing, somehow.

Before I passed out with whatever glorious drugs they had given me I spoke to my only sister, I had to talk her out of flying to Sydney. I also spoke to my boyfriend for the first time since the accident, chilling him out since he hadn’t heard from me in 2 days, then freaking him out by telling him what was going on, and right before he went on holiday too. Started to feel like an international party-pooper of life.

Wednesday 29/7/09

In the Annandale Hotel, Sydney, Australia, during the 2nd song of our set (The Greater than symbol and the hash), I cleared a space in the crowd with my hands before stepping off the 3 foot stage, as far a I can remember both my feet cleared the stage then one was caught on either a photographer’s tripod (of which there were 10 in the small venue) or on a cable running along the stage, I’m pretty sure it was the former.
I hit the floor with my entire body weight on my out stretched elbow, forcing it the wrong way (“hyper-extended” I’ve since learned) I heard a ‘click’ and felt immediate pain, at this point I was only aware of how long I had to go to get back to the drums for the next section of the song, thinking as the pain got worse that as long as I got back for the section where I cue the band into the fast part, I’d be fine. When I stood up, my arm flopped lifeless (and as it turned out, elbow-less) and I realised I probably wasn’t making it back on stage any time soon. I hobbled through the crowd, found our manager Colin and said something along the lines of “my arm just fucking snapped, get me the fuck out of here!” (something he said played over and over in his head for days). The show was stopped and I was taken outside to wait for the ambulance, the muscles started to seize up and as my adrenaline wore off I quickly became a bubbling wreck. I’ve never felt pain like it, nothing else existed but blinding white torture, I would have done literally anything to stop it. By the time the paramedics arrived, I couldn’t stand up, they injected me with morphine on the street and some fans tried to take photos (which was met with proper rage from manager/band/label types), Ryan [McGinness, Bass] came with me in the ambulance where my 2nd or 3rd shot of morphine kicked in, I cant remember much of the journey except Ryan laughing as I (apparently) told the male paramedic that the Doctor who was in attendance at the show had done “fuck all but give me ice” and asked where “sally jesse” was (the other female paramedic with red glasses). As I was being checked in I got given more and more morphine (200mg in total I think), I was completely fucking wasted, I cant even imagine what pish I was talking to Paul (Dew Process) and Colin (our manager) who had since joined us. Absolutely gutting news as one of our favourite bands and recent tour partners Favours For Sailors have decided to call it a day. They were a fantastic band, as frustratingly shambolic and self-deprecating as they were fist-punchingly awesome, absurdly zany and melodic and as genuinely talented as they come. We will miss them tremendously.

when we were in america last year, there was all kinds of wild stuff happening with the studio that we were supposed to be using (a long story which includes the mafia, fire department, more mafia an breaking and entering). so at the start of our trip we had 2 days to check out new york before we got down to recording our album, 'hey everyone'.
we were in a clothes shop, and the radio was on. the song playing made all of us (we were scattered all around the store) to look up and give lots of "OMFG ARE YOU HEARING THIS?" to each other.
that song was 'fall for you' by secondhand serenade. now, every american who is reading this will know what i'm talking about straight away, but for those of you in europe (who weren't subjected to months of this song everywhere), here's what it sounds like:

in the few weeks after we got obsessed with it - it constantly came on the radio on the drive to the studio, on tv, we downloaded it and got drunk and sung along - its like it was following us.
surely nothing could top that nauseating, autotuned shudderfest?
but one night in the studio we all got drunk and tried (travis from gym class heros even stopped by).
calum wasn't with us at the time so i sung it all, we played it live and you have NO IDEA how many takes it took to do the acoustic 'breakdown' part. some guy was filming it too, but we don't know what happened to it, hopefully that will show up soon - there's pouting and cigarettes and limp bizkit slam dancing.

It's been trying time behind the scenes in dananan recently. I can tell you the only thing getting us all through it is what will be our best live shows to date - glasgow on tuesday in our beloved nice n sleazy, wednesday in london in awesome, scary brixton academy - not to mention the countless festivals this summer. we are also working on some exciting stuff later in the year for the uk, australia and even japan.

Hey Everyone,

It is our sad duty to inform you that Laura is no longer playing bass in Dananananaykroyd.
The only way the band can continue is if every member is on the same page musically and that each member's efforts and passions are towards making us the most rocko band possible.

We'd like to add that we love Laura and wish her all the best and we will miss hanging out with her all the time.

In the meantime, our friend Ryan McGinness will be joining us on bass for our tours this year, so be sure to come over and say "hiya, pal" to him at shows.

Y NOT FESTIVAL

We had to cancel our appearance at this years Y-Not Festival as we will be elsewhere at the time and haven't quite got the hang of this 2-places-at-1-time dealio that some bands with time machines can somehow pull off. We made a mistake and can't do it now! Oh man, we're sorry to those who might have wanted to have watched us perform rock music at that particular festival. Plus, you know, why not? Why not cancel? GET OVER YOURSELF.
